Welcome to English 1

English for Chemistry Foundation Course 2012

This is an English for Academic Purposes (E.A.P.) course tailored to the needs of first and second semester undergraduate chemistry students of the University of Crete.

There are two compulsory modules in the first year, one in the winter and one in spring semester, and an optional module you can only attend provided you have passed English 1 and 2.

Kindly note that students that hold a C2 (Proficiency) certificate are entitled to take a diagnostic test which will allow them to be exempted from English 1 exam. In case they score more than 8/10, these students will only have to give a presentation in December 2012 and attend one seminar in January 2013.

Our first lesson will take place on Tuesday 25th September at 15.00. All students need to attend the lesson to pick up their books and find out more about the course. Students also need to have an active email account, so that they can get updates from  the instructor.

The diagnostic test will be held on Wednesday 3rd October 2012 at 14.00 and it should last for an hour. Proficiency holders who wish to attend the course, even though they were exempted, are very welcome to do so!

Last but not least, there will be announcements concerning library seminars throughout the semester. Do not miss them. You will save a lot of time later on, if you know how to use our library facilities.
